Richard Taps, Elder Law Attorney in Columbus OhioRICHARD T. TAPS, ESQ.

Richard T. Taps is a graduate of Denison University.  Richard received his law degree from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1978.

Richard is certified in elder law by the National Elder Law Foundation and belongs to the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.


PUBLICATIONS
Author of The Ohio Medicaid Manual (revised in 2015), which explains how to qualify for Medicaid benefits in Ohio.  The Ohio Medicaid Manual is a guide for attorneys who practice in the area of Medicaid planning.

Co-author of Financial and Health Care Planning for the Elderly in Ohio (Anderson Publishing Company, 1999).

Author of Probating Your Estate in Franklin County (1995).

Author of The Medicaid Manual (Silver Press, 1993).

Richard is married and has one daughter, who lives in San Diego.  His hobbies include golf, bridge (LifeMaster), and reading.

Senior Associate Attorney
 
Maggie L. Sutton has worked with Richard Taps since 2011.  She is a graduate of Indiana University Kelley School of Business with a degree in Accounting.  Maggie received her law degree from Capital University in 2011, cum laude, where she was both Secretary and Treasurer of the Board of the Women̡w Association.  She is a volunteer with the Legal Aid Society helping elderly and low-income individuals with their estate planning needs.
 
Prior to law school, Maggie worked in Chicago as a tax accountant for a large accounting firm. She has experience working with high net worth individuals preparing business and individual tax returns.

Associate Attorney
 
Jessica N. Roshon began working with Richard Taps in 2014.  She graduated from Capital University in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in English Literature and minors in Philosophy and Political Science.  Jessica went on to graduate from Capital University Law School in 2015, summa cum laude.  Jessica was the Editor-in-Chief of the Capital University Law Review and graduated with Pro Bono honors.
 
Jessica has significant legal writing experience and is familiar with various estate planning and estate administration issues.  She also has an understanding of complex Medicaid and VA benefits issues.  Jessica enjoys meeting new clients and strives to keep her clients engaged with prompt responses and updates.

Robert C. Rafferty is a graduate of Grove City College (Pennsylvania). Following graduation, Bob was an assistant football coach for 5 years at Western Kentucky University.  Bob received his law degree from Capital University in 1984, cum laude, and was a member of the Capital University Law Review.
